The night got off to a nostalgic start with an appearance from bowlers past, John and Donna Garon. “Oh, we were just out driving down Olive Street and thought we would stop in for a visit”. I guess they were telling the truth as we could not get them to stay. They had dinner plans somewhere and it was not Olivette Lanes? I don’t think there were any spots open but that did not factor into the equation. More math related information later- read on.
Blake Critzas has now successfully passed off Alleygations duty for two weeks. WARNING to Curt Linton you may be next on his list. Beware!
Blake’s team is full of experts. With winter warmup recently completed they may be mixing sports, however. The TEAM of coaches is trying to teach 2nd half bowler Dan Scott how to throw the change-up instead of the fastball. Blake has even taken to video replay to aid in their efforts. We’ll see how this works out as the 2nd half unfolds.
Team Linton downed Critzas 16-6 so the coaching did not bear fruit on this night. This was the score of the evening as all but one match came out 16-6. A very dapper looking Ralph Decker, bowling in a Tom James French cuff shirt, led the way for Linton with a pair of 200 games (201 & 202) and a 586 series. Ralph said “I bowl my best when I look my best.” Sporting his Tom James clothes apparently make all the difference. Maybe there is a commercial spot in there somewhere. Not sure that it would sell with this bunch of Rotarians. Kevin Hadler bested him for the night much to Ralph’s displeasure. Even if it got him a few pins I can’t picture Kevin in a pink plaid Tom James shirt at Olivette Lanes.
Dan Conway took home $62 in the 50/50 drawing. He did have to kick in $0.57 so Matt could do the math. It seems some wise guy threw bonus coins in the pot. You can tell Matt runs a tight ship as it really gets under his skin when “things just don’t add up”. The culprit was going to put $0.50 and ½ of a ticket in the bucket. That may have been too much for our “bucket man” to handle.
Team Fuller seemed a little overjoyed that Team Finch dropped game one. They trailed the 2nd half leaders by a point entering the evening. This seemed to inspire Team Finch as they turned it around to take the last two games and total (16-6). Vic DiFate came to life in Game 3 and rolled a 177. Kevin Hadler had the best night I could find with a couple of 200 games (211 & 212) and a 602 series. This helped get his team 6 points. Arnold Hadler picked a 5-6-10 split, and Dan Conway tried to sit down and claim a strike as the 7 pin slid over to the ½ board but wouldn’t go down. The scoreboard tried to give it to him but he was denied. He did get the 7 pin down on the 2nd ball.
Team Fuller at the opposite end of the Rotary lanes matched the 16-6 performance of Finch to remain one point back moving into week 5. Team Losciale was on the wrong side of this match. Bob Kocher picked a 4-8-10 split and supposedly there were many other splits picked up but no one could remember who, what or when by the time I made my way down for the interview process. This is an older group. Maybe we should keep an eye on them. Remembering our recent speaker Lance LeComb, Don Fuller was heard saying, “We’re just like MSD- #2”.
