On Wednesday, May 18th , we held the annual Rotary Charity Golf Tournament. We got lucky with the weather after a previous two-day downpour. It was a beautiful sunny day as 30 foursomes of Rotarians and their guests took on the Norman K. Probstein Golf Course in Forest Park. There were a few rumblings from some of the players who thought the course played too long even though the
Distance was 6,100 yards. The course was a little damp and it was “cart path” only because of the previous day’s rain which made for a long day. After the round was finished, the golfers were treated to some Happy Hour music provided by Rich Losciale’s band called “Tammy and the GRHIPPIES”. Yes, that is the correct spelling of the name. It stands for “Grey Haired Hippies”.
I would like to thanks all the people who participated in our biggest fund-raiser of the year. Our support staff of volunteers was made up of Maggie Lampe, Marcia Barber, Rose Cooper and Dave McNutt.
We enjoyed an incredible show of generosity from our corporate sponsors as well as our individual hole sponsors. I would also like to thank the members of our committee for their hard work and dedication to this golf tournament every year. The following people were invaluable to the success of this event: Matt Weiss, Kent Steinbrueck, Don Lorenz, Matt Wilson, Steve LaFara, Blake Critzas, Bob Kocher, Adam McNutt, Ed Harris, Jeromy Fritz and John Guilfoy.
I would like to add a special thanks to the people involved with “Ride on St. Louis” who is the beneficiary of our efforts this year. We will make a presentation along with a check to Marita Wassman who is the spokesperson for ROSL at an upcoming Rotary meeting.
As mentioned last week, the tournament grossed over $50,000 and we expect a net profit of around $35,000. Thanks again to all of our generous Rotarians for making this possible.
