President Beth rang the bell at precisely 12 noon to begin the meeting followed by our customary citing of the Pledge of Allegiance, The Four Way Test and singing led by Bill Piper to the tune of “Meet Me in St. Louis”.
It was an exciting day as two new members, Marti Kelly of Deaconess Nurse Ministry and Rebecca Richie from Warehouse of Fixtures were formally inducted into Club 11. Following the Induction Ceremony Rose Cooper, Club 11 member and current District Governor awarded Past-President Richard Losciale with the Rotary International Citation Award for 2016-17. Our Club, as Rose described it, was led by Richard to achieve a difficult number tasks ranging from new member acquisition, community service projects and garnering publicity for our club and RI. Richard graciously accepted the award with a brief statement of “this is your award” to the club.

Kent Steinbrueck introduced the week’s guest speaker, Sarah Melinger, Director of Development for Gateway Arch Park Foundation. Sarah showed us some photos and videos of the new entrance and museum areas to open at the park. She described the new entrance as a “hug from the arch welcoming you in”. She noted the focus on adding windows and lighting to make the museum seem as if its at ground level and went on to describe a new experience that will be made available to those who can’t or don’t want to take the trip to the top of the Arch that will allow them to see the view as if they had made the trip.
Sarah also shared information about many of the events that have taken place and was eager to share about the many events that will be continuing. The events include Blues @ the Arch, ArchBark, Winterfest and a return of Fair St. Louis (including the Air Show) this summer to the Arch Grounds. One of the goals of these events it to ensure that the St. Louis community is engaged with the Arch instead of feeling it’s just a place to take visitors. You can keep abreast of all that is happening at the Arch by downloading their new app or by going to archpark.org
We also heard some breaking news that the official new name of the park is the Gateway Arch National Park. Be sure to check out their website for more information and learn how to become a member of the Arch Park Foundation.
The meeting ended with the Progressive 50/50 drawing and Mike Mosella pulling a Jack of Clubs. The raffle continues…
